The PC of The Near Future

Here is my take on the PC of the near future along with some links to technology that are here now or almost here. I like to think of myself as a midnight futurist because the best times for ideas tend to be midnight for me.

In the near future the phone will morph into a personal computer, communicator, and entertainment center, research center, along with an augmented reality contact lenses or sun glasses we may be sporting.

The new computers of the near future will look and work like this “well maybe”. The old PC of the world today will no longer exist, it will be replaced with a phone like device called your Personal CCER-AR system (personal computer, communicator, entertainment center, research center along with an augmented reality system) or another catchy acronym.

You’ll wake up one morning at 6:45 AM hearing your favorite music as the alarm from your CCER device. Get dressed and start heading down stairs, you hear your car starting after issuing a voice command to your CCER. You have been viewing the weather and traffic news through your augmented glasses that serve no other purpose but to interact with your CCER system. You chose the light weight stylish sunlight darkening shades that fit your face well instead of the contact lens system. The weather report shows you it was below freezing last night and your car was left outside so a warm up is a good idea. You have a bowl of crispy healthy cereal for breakfast and head out.

While sitting in your car preparing to drive to work you see through your CCER a list of On Demand music, audio shows and sports talk radio shows to choose from. You issue Colin Cowherd command from your list and Colin starts his sports talk radio show stream. As your driving to work your CCER alerts you of an accident ahead and you avoid it thanks to your CCER warnings, you also notice traffic is backed up on I-5 four to five miles, that would’ve made you very late. Your CCER provides you turn by turn instruction through a mapped detour course overlaid in front of your view in a transparent map that does not obstruct your view of the road, not unlike the HUD user interface in a GT racing game.

You get to Starbucks walk in the store and the augmented realty displays the latest music, TV shows, and movies that you can order while waiting for your drink at the issue of a command. You order a Chai-Tea or whatever beverage you drink in the morning and OK the transaction with a gesture, the CCER debits your account. No real money is used and no credit card is used either, you then head back on the road to work.

You get to work, the security system is biometric and the biometrics is built in your CCER device so, no bio check is needed anymore and the door lets you in. You give your CCER device to your coworker to try to get in and the device locks him out. This is because as soon as you handed the device to your friend it locked and any access you had with the device has been disabled.

Just before you go into your office you hear sirens outside, you are the curious type and decide to check it out. You get outside and find a person struck by a car, the paramedics have arrived and they are equipped with their own super version of the CCER system. They are instantly able to scan the body for broken bones, internal bleeding and vital signs. The paramedics determine the patient needs hospital attention and away they go.

You start back to your office, meanwhile on the way to the hospital the paramedics have started treatment on the patient, dosage reporting and incident reports are a thing of the past. Reporting is still required but the CCER system is recording all the actions being performed on the patient and even much more detailed data is being gathered for legal and learning purposes including paramedic hart rate and decision making action are all recorded and sent to servers in real time. From the time the paramedics arrived on scene to the time they perform any action on the patient all vital data is being record and relayed to the hospital, all this data is being logged and reports are being generated in real time by the CCER system.

Once at the hospital the ER doctors have been equipped with even more specialized CCER systems. Doctors can review incoming vital data to make better decision about the patient’s needs and diagnoses. More technology exists at a hospital than any NASA Launch headquarters. From real time CCER displays of the patients internal cat scans overlaid over the patient body during treatment or surgery to managing entire hospital staff and equipment through one centralized display on the CCER.

Police can review accident data and pictures captured by the CCER to see if any clues are left for the investigation unit.

Back at the office you have just been given the task to research company X in the hopes of buying a lot of stock in it if solvent and strong. You sit on your desk and with a couple of gesture and voice commands, the CCER system queries Google matrix and many other sources and produces a sound financial and detailed report on company X with all the data to make a better decision for you to present to your boss.

Its noon time for lunch, you decide to meet some friends at Tree Garden, you order soup and salad, and details pop up on your CCER about your friend’s latest emails and conversations on politics or sports you’ve had with them. Face recognition identifies all of them and if they are connected to the same social networks data about their current post or newly uploaded images displays.

Your drinks arrive, details of your drink appear on the CCER including calories, caffeinated, alcohol content and such are reviled to you as well as data on food intake and suggestions for workout time increases to reduce its affect. All intakes are recorded and cataloged for timeline food journaling automatically. You and your friends decide to share a video over lunch and with a gesture and voice command you place your phone size device on the table and it displays it on the wall for everyone’s enjoyment.

Back at work all the emails that you have currently received while you where at lunch are ready to be read by you or be read to you, you decide. More work request have hit your desk and you are ready to tackle the afternoon but a reminder pops up that a meeting is scheduled at 3:00 PM on the waterfront development project. You get to your meeting, your CCER system recognize mostly every one but two people are new and your system can’t recognize them, color coded arrows form over the new members in the meeting so you can remember to meet and exchange contact data later or maybe before the meeting starts. You introduce each other and exchange your contact information via the CCER and now they are added to the project group with title and roles in the project for the future reference. All meeting minutes are recorded logged and upload to a central document and content storage network as the meeting progresses.

Large virtual display areas are used to present the proposed new look of the water front property with whiz-bang graphics and 3d animation. All the time your CCER is taking personal notes with gestures and capturing what is important to you.

After work you go workout at the gym and all the equipment is connected to your fit-link account and your proximity in the workout position triggers the automated rep counter, weight set up, seat position, ROM position and all other details of the lift are set for you, same goes for whatever other exercise equipment your are using.

After your work out your ready for dinner, you subscribe to the food network and decide to prepare a chicken marsala pasta dish. The CCER walks you thru an augmented reality preparation and cooking of the meal. You have a family dinner cooked in about 45 minutes, eat dinner with the family and are ready to help the kids with their homework.

The CCER display the current homework for your kids and their grade point average to date plus any emails from the teacher regarding their work or behavior. Homework research is complete, ready for relax time.

Everyone sits down in the living room enjoying a projected show of the current American Idol 30 or something but you decide you want to watch the NFL Network through your CCER instead of the Idol show. Everyone is all together watching different shows and exhausted from the days demands.

Time to sleep now, your vital sings are always being monitored by the CCER system, a concern is sent to your Dr. about an irregular heartbeat at night for the past few days.

The Google Matrix has you.
